Following description of radiation interaction with matter, principles of detection and definition of dosimetric quantities, biological effects of radiation are described. External and internal exposure to radiation are discussed, including specifics of radiation protection in nuclear installations. International recommendations and IAEA Safety standards for radiation protection are summarised in separate chapter. In the last chapter, environmental monitoring, exposure pathways, assessment of doses, and monitoring in emergencies are discussed.
Case studies are 16 exercises that the trainees can work on individually. There are also 24 multiple choice questions that the lecturer can use for the weekly exam.
