The International Conference on Challenges Faced by Technical and Scientific Support Organizations (TSOs) in Enhancing Nuclear Safety and Security, which was held in Tokyo, Japan from 25 to 29 October 2010, concluded that “The IAEA should foster the establishment of a forum dedicated to nuclear safety infrastructure development issues related to scientific and technical support. Such a TSOF would meet regularly in between the international TSO conferences, establish close working relations with the Regulatory Cooperation Forum (RCF), and operate in conjunction with established regional TSO cooperation structures as well as with the NEA/CSNI on science related issues…” The recent event at the Fukushima NPS and the subsequent Ministerial Conference at the IAEA further highlighted the need of a TSOF. The IAEA, as Secretariat of this forum, will facilitate and promote coordination and collaboration of Member State activities.
10th TSOF Steering Committee:The 10th meeting of the Steering Committee (SC) of the Technical and Scientific Organizations' Forum (TSOF) was held in the IAEA from 27 to 28 October 2016 and gathered 14 participants from 10 Member States and from the European Commission. In addition, 10 experts from the Agency attended and provided presentations to the Steering Committee Members.

Consultancy meeting, July 4-6, 2016, ViennaFollowing one of the main conclusions of the last TSO conference in Beijing 2014, the TSO Forum members are currently evaluating the need of developing an action to support the development of technical and scientific capabilities in embarking countries, especially for TSOs supporting Regulatory Bodies and in synergy with existing support initiatives.
Consultancy meeting, August 22-26, 2016, ViennaThe IAEA Technical Document (TECDOC) provisionally entitled Technical and Scientific Support Organizations (TSOs) and Their Services Provided in Support of Regulatory Functions was finalised during the Consultancy meeting which took place on August 22-26, 2016 in Vienna. This TECDOC, which focuses on TSOs and on the nature of the support they provide to the regulatory body, will be a major progress in the definition of the role and activities of organizations or organizational units providing expertise and services to the regulatory body on nuclear and radiation safety and all related scientific and technical issues.
