The first step in undertaking a self-assessment of the national safety infrastructure using the IAEA tools, therefore, would be to create a lifecycle.
The lifecycle created should have a clearly indicated name and a self-explanatory description that could easily be understood even several years later and by other users. During creating the lifecycle, one will also have to select the questionnaires’ set for the lifecycle in accordance with the agreed scope of the self-assessment undertaking.
To create a lifecycle in SARIS:
1.     Click on the Lifecycle Admin tools tab
2.     Click the Add button in the Data group of the Lifecycle Admin page
3.     When the Add SARIS page is open, do the following:
a.      Insert the Name of the Lifecycle
b.     Provide the Description for the Lifecycle
c.      Select the Questionnaire template for the lifecycle from the Questionnaire Set Templates list
d.     Select the questionnaire set which will be addressed in this lifecycle from the Questionnaire set list
4.      Click the Save & Close button in the Editing group if you want to save and exit
[Saving the created lifecycle takes a while depending on the speed of the computer. Please wait until it finishes and ‘Saving new lifecycle’ message is closed]
Note: When you open SARIS for the first time, the Lifecycles page is open by default and you need to click the Lifecycle Admin tools tab to create the lifecycle (steps 1 to 4 above)
