Mediterranean Region Transport Network

A network for the safe transport of radioactive material has been established to move Competent Authorities in the Mediterranean region towards a sustainable system of mutual support, cooperation and coordination in normal and emergency transport of radioactive material. A key aspect of the approach of the network is to promote sustainable transport of radioactive material in the region. This network was established under a project conducted by the IAEA, with funding from the European Union.

Why do we need to transport radioactive materials? Radioactive materials have been used to enhance the quality of our lives for over a century. Today, all manner of products that we take for granted are dependent upon the reliable transport of radioactive materials from manufacturer to end user. Several examples of such applications are described below.
