The presential workshop is organized in such way that international experts and IAEA staff are enabled to mentor participants by providing them expert advice towards enhancing and/or finalizing the draft regulations on radiation safety under preparation  through face-to-face interaction and group discussions.

The IAEA offers this presential workshop from time to time in the framework of one of its various assistance programmes. The presential workshop of the School is designed to accommodate a group of participants from selected Member States with certain commonalities, such as language, regulatory traditions, geographical region or the current status of development of their regulatory infrastructures. This allows them to work together in synergistic groups and makes easier exchange knowledge, experience and expertise.

Participation in the presential workshop is open only to officially selected participants in one of the offerings of the radiation safety programme of the School as explained below.

Eligible Member States to participate in a specific offering of the presential workshop of the School are invited by the organizers of the School to present candidacies through official channels. The invitation letter includes information about dates, venue and other important administrative information. The candidacies presented by eligible countries are assessed by the organizers of the School to select those candidacies that are more suitable taking into account availability of resources, balanced representation of countries invited to present nominations, and the specific context of the country (status of development of the regulatory infrastructure, degree of preparation of draft regulations and etc.).

Access to the learning material used by international experts and IAEA staff to conduct the presential workshop is available in the IAEA's Open Learning Management System. Participants can access this learning material as supporting information or for future reference. Please, click the link below to CLP4NET and select the Thematic Module of the Radiation Safety programme to access the material and, if you wish, complete the quiz offered as part of the learning material.

At the end of the presential workshop participants are expected to have gained sufficient knowledge and expertise to enable them to complete draft regulations on radiation safety and to ensure that they are in line with international safety standards and best practices and properly framed within their national legislative framework. The knowledge acquired should also be instrumental to elaborate future regulations.

Non-registered individuals can also access the learning material of segment 3 of the School for the radiation safety programme and undergo the quiz only for formative purposes.

Upcoming presential workshops of the School are also announced in GNSSN web portal of the School for information purposes.
