RPoPAS - Radiation Protection of Patients Advisory Service

Purpose	To assess the level of compliance with BSS and national regulations on radiation protection of patients, staff and patients in medical application of radiation and make recommendations for improvement
Audience	Users in medical facilities, national authority responsible for implementing radiation protection standards and regulations
Team composition	Medical physicists, physicians and regulators with competence in the area
Duration	one week
Expected output	Identification of lacunae in meeting requirements of BSS for safety of patients, medical staff and public from radiation from medical sources; recommendations on bridging the gap between requirements and practice and as support to improving the level of radiation safety
Average usage in 2005-2010	New service, so no missions so far
Recommended frequency	3 missions in one year to start with, one each country
Resource requirements	Mission by a team of 3 to 6 persons for one week; pre-mission self appraisal data
Prerequisites	Request by MS, self appraisal data and commitment of national regulatory and health authorities having responsibility for radiation protection in medical exposure

Required signoffs	National authority and selected facilities at least two at each level: tertiary care (academic), tertiary care (non-academic) and secondary care
