Peer Review Service: IPPAS - International Physical Protection Advisory Service
Purpose	IPPAS provides peer advice on implementing international instruments, and  Agency guidance on the protection of nuclear and other radioactive material and associated facilities. Goals: a) help States translate international instruments into regulatory requirements for design and operation of physical protection systems; b) provide States bodies and facilities with new concepts and discuss best practices on physical protection with experts from other countries.
Audience	Either a Nation-wide or Site-Specific focus, based upon Country Request
Team composition	Team of International experts (Team Leader plus three or more experts in the field of physical protection).
Duration	Preparatory Mission from 2-5 days; Mission from 10 days to 2 weeks
Expected output	A Final Strictly Confidential Report which details the results, acknowledges good practices and lists recommendations or suggestions for impovement at the state and operational level.
Average usage in 2005-2010	Worldwide about 5 missions are implemented per year.
Recommended frequency	Follow-up Missions may be scheduled to assess implementation or recommendations and advice (usually within five years).
Resource requirements	(1) Administrative support, (2)  travel support for the team during the 2-5 day Preparatory Mission (3) translation of the report to English or official language, (4) 5 working days for finalization of the report, (5) travel expenses for the team during 10-14 day Mission,.
Prerequisites	Official request from the Member State (2) assigment of counterpart in position to gather relevant nuclear security organizations in the country, (3) agreed terms of reference, (4) Preliminary report, (5) country-accepted Team Leader
